Pig In A Pit opened July 15, 2003, with
much anticipation from the community. BBQ had been absent in
Milledgeville proper for some time. Milledgeville and the
surrounding area has been good to Pig In A Pit, making Ben and Hal
feel at home. The Loper Brothers, Ben and Hal, came from two
different prospective starting the restaurant. Hal had completed a Culinary
Degree with honors. He brought vast experience having worked in many
different restaurants, including working for two years with Buckhead Life.
His professors suggested a fine dining restaurant, but he and Ben wanted
to establish a good BBQ restaurant. Ben Loper had successfully ran three
companies, leaving each with highest recommendations. Ben brought to
Pig In A Pit the business expertise that all new companies need.
Both Loper Brothers pledged to give back to the community 5% of their
profits. Many local institutions, schools, and individuals can attest to
the donations from Pig In A Pit.
Having past the two year mark, a huge landmark for any restaurant, the
Loper Brothers are looking towards a bright future. A second restaurant
is planned to open this fall in Macon on Bass Road.
